The U.S. National Parks Service doesn’t just include natural phenomena. It also has a number of National Historical Parks, Monuments, Memorials and Battlefields (among others!). Mount Rushmore is a national memorial, and definitely has the vibe of learning about and celebrating United States history. It is also (I know this sounds ridiculous to say) A GIANT CARVING – and I was happy to learn more about the workers and process that created this amazing feat. Just for your info, it costs money to park here – which is unusual for the Park Service, so be prepared with a credit/debit card.

- I love the emphasis on honoring the workers at Mount Rushmore -although it makes my hair stand on end to consider the lack of safety equipment compared to what we have in modern days! I am glad to report that no Rushmore workers died on the job, though!
