Pumpkin Regatta, Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada – October 2018

The announcer called them “personal vegetable crafts (PVCs).” The Pumpkin Regatta is literally people paddling enormous pumpkins across Lake Pesaquid. The paddlers carve out the pumpkin’s centers and create elaborate seating on the inside. They paint the pumpkins on the outside, and paddlers sometimes wear costumes to match. Some paddlers row alone, some in twos, some in a team. I sincerely regret that I got there too late to see the Parade of Paddlers before the race, where the paddlers marched their PVCs down Windsor’s Main Street. A good time was had by all!
