Occasionally on this trip I have been in a lovely park – national, state or city – and find out that there used to be big industrial goings-on in that very spot decades ago. Sioux Falls is an example of that, writ large. The falls were once dominated by mills, now they are the centerpiece of the city’s gem of a city park. It reminds me that we have reclaimed environmental health and natural beauty from over-development in the past, and that gives me some hope for the future of humanity and the planet.
Sioux Falls is a nifty town, with lots of historic architecture, public art and civic engagement. I really enjoyed walking around town on a late summer Saturday.
